Nit-pickin things like this just bother me. Most of these are hypothethical questions since I guess the answer would be "Cause they could!" So...
    Why did they make...

...all the o's in United States of America on all the Lincoln memorial cents in small caps? None of the other modern coins have this except the 2009 LP4?(Unfinished capital). It has a small o but the other 3 Lincolns and all the shields have a large O!

...some of the T's on the Jefferson Nickels look like palm trees?

    Nickel Palm T.jpg

...the last A in America on the Roosevelt Dime lower than and smashed up against the C and at a crazy angle? No other coins do this. (Well, the Quarter runs a close second)

... the dates on the Washington Quarter Proofs so rounded and delicate until 1982, then change to flat and wide in 1983 & up?

    1982 Wash.jpg 1983 Wash.jpg

...Blue pkgs. for the proof sets from 68-72, then black pkgs. till 82, then one year (83) blue again, then purple for another 10 years?

...the proof 1979 SBA dollar with a noticeably smaller star at the point of her shoulder, but in 1980 and up it is the same size as the others? (Can't vouch for the business strikes)

Just a few things that I ponder about--what about you?

Hey Leave my fellow Georgia Boy alone.. Looks like he spent some time putting this thread together. To give my opinion I think the Mint just doesn't give a shoot about coins anymore. No pride left in'em.

    Hey!
You are from Commerce! How did I miss you?
I'm from Cleveland, just a tad north. Good to see a fellow Georgian on here! :)
And quarter, I must say that that comment made me lmbo
But I agree with guntownguy. They don't really care. Or they do and just wanna confuse us like crazy.

Artistic license. You would have to ask Gasparro (sp?) about it. And there is another circulation coin with the same thing, the Franklin Half dollar.

this is a striking issue, it has nothing to do with the design.

Lower flatter relief for added die life.

This is a result of overpolishing of the die. Not all of them have that small star.

Because all embryos start out as female. The changes that lead to the male come later.

Look at the dime. The mintmark is getting farther and farther away from the date. Look at 1980 dimes, then 2000 dimes, then 2011 dimes.

    What a difference!

Actually live just outside the large metropolitan Ila area in Madison Co. But you know how the postal service is, so I wind up with a Commerce address and phone no.!

Thanks for all the replies guys--especially Conder101

You can't compare them to the 1980 dimes. Back in 1980 the mintmarks were still punched into each die by hand so they wander all over the place. From 1990 on the mintmark is in the master hub and is in the exact same place on all the dies for that year. It is possible for the mintmark to wander a bit from one year to the next since they now create a new master hub each year, but all the coins of a given year will have the mintmark in the same place.
