there's this camera shop in my city ran by this really old nice man, i just bought a morgan dollar from him today and he asked me if i also wanted to by a 1901-O morgan dollar for 27$ its in great condition in a round plastic case, i wasnt sure if it was real because it has this copper-ish color, kinda like old brass on the front of the coin on the nose neck and hair. could that be where the silver plating wore away? (i dont have picture) if its real is that a good deal? thanks.

Genuine Morgan Dollars are not plated. They are 90% silver. (The copper in the coin is the other 10% - 90% silver + 10% copper.) If the coin in question is plated I wouldn't buy it.

Some old silver coins take on a coppery color. This is called toning. I would look at pictures of toned Morgans and see if this looks like what you're seeing on the old man's coin.

The 1901-O is a fairly common issue (13,320,000 minted), so it is an inexpensive way to own a silver dollar from the New Orleans mint.

He sells genuine things life proof sets, 1964 and earlier coins, giant size certified pennies and certified silver commoratives. I think he just didnt notice the brass-ness (he is like 93)
