I have a Washington Quarter the show doubling on the Obverse:

IN GOD WE TRUST. The doubling is evident on both letters of WE and the last T in TRUST.

Can anyone shed some light on this, such as rarity or history? I have found similar doubling on the 1972-D, but not on 1970 or 1971, or 1973.

We would have to see a photo to determine if the doubling is from a doubled die or strike doubling.

It definately is not MDD. I am only interested whether doubling has been observed or not.

    Input appreciated :smile

Whether or not this doubling has been observed or not is still something we need to see a photo to determine. I don't collect quarters, so I don't have one. Others here might, but a photo would help greatly in determining if this particular die has been seen before. If it's a minor doubled die, then the additional value is very little. Maybe a few bucks.

Nothing listed in the Cherrypickers Guide. A picture would definitely help to identify what you have as jallengomez mentioned

A lot of folks will swear they have a doubled die coin and 90% of the time in questionable cases it is the worthless mechanical or die shift doubling that usually is flat looking and along one or both sides of the design and letters. I have tried to help folks on Ebay with the worthless forms of doubling and most of them still swear they have a real doubled die coin.
