I recently purchased a Dag Hammarskjöld Medal and am trying to find out more about it The medal is approximately 35mm in diameter and shows the only UN secretary-general killed in the line of duty.

Does anyone have information on the mint, or composition? It appears to be silver, or at least silver clad. Also, I may have one struck on a defective planchet, as one side of the medal is about 50% thicker than the other.

I'll try and add better scans shortly, but here's a quick pic:

Bought it off of eBay for about $3. I recently bought some Katanga currency, and it seems like a nice counterpoint even if it is made from nickel-silver.

I'd still like to find out the composition. Any ideas?

Strangely enough, it appears to have coin orientation instead of medal orientation. And, I found out that the UN gives out a Hammarskjöld Medal to the families of fallen UN Peacekeepers... but that is a bizarre looking crystal thing.
