65 - On the fence on this one 66 - Tough call and I'm betting that obverse was hard to photograph 67 - Very nice - Of course I thought that about the merc last round
Morgan MS64 could be a 65 Rosie MS66 so tough with dark toning like that Cent MS67 nick might hold it back a grade
Yes it was, but I talked to Todd at Bluecc while I was at Long beach and he really helped me out with some lighting tips Well as far as the Merc, it was in an old rattler holder and by todays standards that coin was at least a 66 IMO
Morgan -- looks like a really close match to PG MS64. Rosie -- man, dimes kill me. I'm studying and studying the Photograde images, and their MS64 still looks better to me than their MS66. For the posted coin, I'm guessing MS66. Lincoln -- I'm guessing MS67. Is there any online resource besides Photograde for grading in the MS range? It's really, really hard to place coins when you've only got one example per grade and every coin's marks are different. (Yes, "this contest" is becoming one such resource. )
the "PCGS Guide to Grading and Counterfeit Detection" may be one of the best grading guides I have ever used. The descriptions for both circulated and Mint State coins is second to none! Try that book and you'll like it!
Morgan: 64. I don't understand what the wear/weak points can be attributed to? Is that simply funky toning, or is it an active agent? Is it rubbing? Hmm... Roosevelt: 67, no idea how to grade these but it looks pretty much flawless and in my experience that's always a 67, LOL Penny: 66, a couple contact marks on a reverse with a slightly subdued luster stops it from 67 IMO
Morgan: 64 Dime: 65 Cent: 66 Been spending a little time at the Benton County library in Corvallis, Oregon. Studying and reading coin books. Kicking up my grading efforts a notch or two.
Looks like we're moving along pretty fast this round...Just 3 contestants still need to submit their grades wledswift Ferreram wiggam007
