    Huh?

I remember reading about someone who was making their own 64-D's on top of authentic Peace Dollars, and I have a bit of a problem with that (since there may be actual 64-d's out there somewhere, but the overstrike 'artist' could argue that he's producing a pure fantasy piece). Overstriking other dates would be clear forgery though.

You wouldn't be referring to Daniel Carr by chance, would you? This sounds like something he'd be up to!!!

Daniel Carr does indeed make the fantasy 1964-D Peace Dollars overstruck on genuine Peace Dollars.

It's funny that you mention this because just yesterday we released the latest "The Coin Show" (which can be heard on the player on this page) and we have an interview with Daniel Carr during which we asked him about the 64-D Peace Dollars as well as some other pieces that he makes.

You should give it a listen. Just click on the big play button on the right.

Will do. I do admire his talents in the coin world. I hope people say that about me in my profession someday!!!

There is a HUGE difference between making a fantasy piece (e.g., 1964-D Peace Dollar) and striking coins of which genuine examples exist (e.g., 1921D, 1921S, 1924D, 1925D, 1928D, 1935D Peace Dollars).

I agree. People will know that it is a copy when the coin doesn't exist (1964-D), but when there are genuine examples, it may fool people.

Plus it is illegal to strike examples of genuine US coins.

No Peace dollars exist with these dates and mints. They would be quite similiar to the 1964 D copies.

My bad. I should have consulted my Red Book before posting. (I don't collect Silver Dollars.)

    Wow.

What did that cost you in grading fee's?

I used their 5 day service, so it was $30 + $5 for die pair attribution + s/h.

they are rather impressive looking coins. I think I'd have kept it raw and used it as a pocket piece. That would be an expensive pocket piece, but interesting to show and tell with.

Theoretically, there may be real 1964's out there. Until the SS lifts their plans to confiscate them, I doubt any will surface.

Ah, I see. I'm in the same boat and didn't get that from the original post.

I would concider it if they still used the white holder

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to check the dates & mint marks- WELL DONE
