Hello All, Yesterday a very good friend and fellow dealer was killed by a lunatic in New York City. Stephen Tannenbaum was well known by most anyone who was ever interested in exonumia and was the goto dealer for anything in Civil War Tokens, Medals, Sutler Tokens, etc. He was hit by a man who had stolen a car, stabbing the owner of the vehicle as he fled. He was just crossing the street in Brooklyn when it happened. Steve was a great early influence on my collecting when I was very young. My father collected Michigan Civil War Tokens and Sutler Tokens, and bought most of his good stuff exclusively through Steve. I have partnered with Steve on many deals over the years, and I always bugged him for information on weird coins I picked up, which he was always glad to tell me about in detail. This is truly a sad day in numismatics. Here is a link to the news article from google. ARTICLE
I heard about that guy on the radio here in Louisville. Too many psychos running around. Sad that a life has to end in such a meaningless way.
What a tragic death. Did the victim who owned the car make it? I am deeply saddened to hear of this horrible incident.
The owner of the car that hit Steve did survive though he was stabbed multiple times. Just a crazy "in the wrong place at the wrong time" story that strikes home in our numismatic community.
