    Hey gang!

I recently saw this piece out of an old collection and have been trying to figure out it's authenticity. It tests for silver and weighs right. It has been in a former coin dealers collection for more then 30 years. The coin has had a rough life as it is slightly bent in a couple of places. I know it's not a new counterfeit... the fact that it is silver and weighs correct was encouraging. Anyone know anything about these?

    Thanks in advance!

Twenty-third year of Kuang Hsu is in fact 1897, not 1896. The coin is listed in Krause as Y #65.1

Value given as $60 in F condition, $150 in VF.

    Hope this helps

Chinese coins are extremely hot right now. When I mean extremely hot, it's even hotter than molten lava!

I would at least multiply krause prices by THREE fold. Not too sure what it would be like in damage condition but probably better to certify it and sell it on ebay. I hunted for one of such Feng-tien yuan coin and it was not cheap at all. Doesn't make it any better that I can't certify it but the weight seems to be spot on. Weight: 26.9g
