It is a long and strange story but I have received a coin from Hong Kong and am completely unaware of why it was sent to me. I have spent days on the internet but can not find a single picture or article about this coin Anywhere! I have been searching so long i have actually been able to decipher its meaning. It seems to be from around the 1920s, I think an old silver dollar. It has the God of Longevity on it and says Longevity on the back. I would think this would be a simple coin to find information on but I have found None! They remade the coin in 1987 is seems and that coin goes for a few hundred but no trace of this original coin. Its as if it got lost in history. Can someone Please find me an article, site, or mint information on this coin? I have no idea where it came from, why is was minted, or what its current worth is. Thanks!!
I have an identical coin.....38.1mm, 18.9g. The weight and the fact that it's magnetic give it away. A genuine dollar-sized coin should wegh around 26g and silver is NOT magnetic. Have you checked yours with a magnet? Regardless, they're pretty coins. Cheers Richard
It can't be a coin - it doesn't have the Republic name on the coin like most other coins and it's crudely struck or most likely cast. Lastly if it doesn't match any know references, it's more than likely that it's a fantasy instead of a possible pattern. If you are looking into Republican era Chinese coins, you should get Kann catalog.
