Prices only go one way with the mint....UP! And with older Mint Sets according to Graysheet Bid? DOWN!
What I don't get, is why anyone would buy these sets from EBAY , when they are readily available from the MInt. Once the set is in someone's hand , who knows what your going to get , even if you do get it.
Seen CoinVault lately? They already have their broken up 2011 sets in NGC slabs and are selling the individuals for 20 bucks in PR69... When the 2011 clad sets where released, CV wanted 40 bucks for them... nuts.... Almost forgot, they're EARLY RELEASE petigree.... Run people, don't walk to the nearest phone and get yours! They even sale gem B.U. crack to help with the buyers remorse....
I ordered one unc set and three silver proof sets. I already got my three clad sets. The mint is making in tough to get the silver sets. They are priced very high. I can only hope for a very low volume that someday leads to a higher value. Based on the last couple of decades, that seems unlikely.
2011 Uncirculated P&D Mint Set. (I don't make the stuff up, oh and don't forget that they will break them up and sale them in slabs. So a $31.95 set can easily fetch two bills! This also crosses over into the NGC/PCGS First Strike or rare insert BS! Don't get me started with those giant, thin novelty silver ATB quarters that CV loves! UHGGG! I know you CT old timers are used to the Coinvault scam, but I have never seen an industry where this type of gouging exist! U.S. Mint Store: ($31.95) http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ick&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&ddkey=ClickInfo Coinvault: ($44.95) https://www.thecoinvault.com/store/product/112322-2011-Mint-Set,1763,5.htm That is all...:thumb:
I have already gotten my proof set, silver set, and got word that UNC set has been shipped. My question is, why does the Mint keep changing the design of the box? Also, I wish I had enough money to buy two of everything- one set to put away and one to break open to put in my albums !
I suspect it might be because they recently re-did their web site and wanted to add that cute little trademark to the packaging. Welcome to the forum.......
They seem to change the design of the boxes every year. I kind of like the 2011 boxes for the clad proof sets.
Personally like the Blue & Red for the Clad & Silver... I guess it does get confusing using those colors since they also denote Philly & Denver?
Sets arrived yesterday. Loving the quality and the more original looking surface. Thought I'd share some Kennedy's.....
PL!:thumb: Now thats what uncirculated should look like! How's the rest of the set look? 65's or better?
My feeling is the mint did quite well with the sets. There is a stray mark here or there (on some coins) but for the most part the quality (MHO) is excellent. In years past there has been some discussion on how the Denver sets were better than the Philly's but both sets appear equal (this year) in my eyes
Just got mine today, and agreed they're pretty nice! Even the Pres dollars faired pretty well...(More A than B sides with mine) Full bands, full stairs, and an above average strike! I guess the early bird does get the worm? Philly wins hands down with my set!!! Have some small edge nicks, and light cleaning fluid spots on the Denvers... BTW: Yes 65+ I think I'm going to buy another set for my Dansco's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got my "subscription" coins today...better late than never, I guess. I have to agree with everyone else...the coins I received are excellent! There are a few stray marks on some, but the worst coin is MS65 (imo) and they go up from there. I think most of the coins (in the one set I checked) will grade MS66-MS67! I really appreciate the Mint taking special care when handling these coins. :hail: Btw, I'm not sure if it's because I'm looking at the coins through plastic, but these coins almost have a "proof" appearance...not in the reflection of the fields, but in the glossiness of the devices. Does anyone else get that impression? Does anyone know if these coins are struck differently than normal business strikes?
