was looking at a friends stack of quarters in his locker today at school and saw one with no reeding so I asked to see it. Turns out what he thought was a quarter was actually a 2003 Indian 1 rupee. I told him I would give him what change I had hanging around in my backpack. I ended up having about 63 cents so I gave it to him in exchange for it. In that pile I also found a 1956 D wheatie . All in all it was a wonderful day at school. My buddy got his french fries and for 63 cents I got a wheatie and a new world coin for my collection. Just a few questions about the coin. I doubt there is any value to it, but I would like to know more about the rupee. What kind of mintage numbers are there? How might one of these guys have ended up in circulation here? Feel free to add any other information you have about the rupee on here. I am always open to learning more.
A lot of the Indian coins are going to prove to be scace in unc. Because of extensive melting a few will end up tough in any grade. I know nothing about post-'00 Indian coins except stainless steel was heavily melted.
Interesting. The coin is fine I would say, but then again im no expert. It does have some obvious wear, but nothing that makes it unreadable. Seems like it is nothing spectacular, but definately something that I am going to hang on to.
