    Hiya gang!

I recently picked up this coin and was going to send it in for grading. It is one of the nicest clad Ikes I have seen. So what you you think this coin will grade?

    Wow, that's a real nice Ike there. I'll say it's a solid MS66, probably would get a + designation.

Gotta go with no grade, looks to me to have been wiped.

I definitely don't see that in hand. This coin hasn't been wiped. It has full unbroken luster completely across the coin. I assume you are talking about the little different look to the face. I think that's just a product of my lighting.

I see nothing that would keep it from a 67 unless the luster is down. From you pics, I do not believe that is the case.

    What an amazingly clean Ike.

That said, NGC and PCGS grade to a quite different standard for these coins in these high-mint-state grades. Where did you send it?

PCGS 66 (outside shot at a 67, but PCGS is crazy tight with this grade), NGC 67 are my guesses.

    Also, how's the luster?

FWIW, here are some crappy pics of my PCGS 66:

Interestingly enough it also shows some die polish, and I think your coin, Matt, is superior (at least from the pics).

Better then average... and I hope you guys are right...a 67 is big money.

It is indeed. But again, they're crazy tight, and PCGS really wants blazing luster on a 67. I wonder if the lapped die hasn't held down the luster on this otherwise very clean coin.

If you hadn't sent it off to PCGS yet, I'd show it to James Sego. He's submitted more of these coins than anyone I know, and is at many of the larger shows.

that should be a ms 66

  12. PCGS will give it an MS66, and NGC will give it an MS67. TC

when a coin is wiped, do you mean with a rag or some type of solution then w/ a rag (rag being general for anything that can be used to clean something i.e.papertowel, shirts..)

I say it is worth the gamble Matt. We all agree that (if it grades) a 66 is a given, but there is a possibility of a 67 and therefore worth the investment to try.

I see nothing to keep that coin out of an MS67 holder, but Leadfoot is right about PCGS, and unless it has booming luster, expect MS66 from them.

It means the same thing it means in normal conversation, that a piece of cloth was used to wipe off the surface. When talking about coins that can be in specific areas only.

Not only wiped, but is that a fingerprint around the mm?

This may be a really dumb question, but why would wiping a coin hurt it so badly?
