Hi... please help. I'm new to this site today and live in England. I'm an avid collector of only $2 notes which range from obsolete notes right up to the new 2011 double deuce set. I've been collecting for a few years and have a reasonable knowledge of US currency(well $2). My collection of $2 2003A series is almost complete but I'm having great difficulty in locating higher serial numbers for circulation(not the uncut sheets)... my aim, although a cheap option is to have at least one UNC note from each print run of the whole series(going by uspapermoneyinfo) Can anyone shed some light as to why I can't seem to find these high serial numbers. my example is that I have a UNC 2003A with a serial between A00000001A-A06400000A print run 1. but cant find one between A06400001A-A12800000A print run 2? This is the same for 7 of the 12 FRB. I have only seen a few bad examples of what I need and thousands of lower serial notes Thanks for reading and hope to hear. Cheers
Hmmmm.....well maybe dealers just don't have them...I mean those notes aren't worth anything...maybe get in touch with a U.S. bank?
maybe not and the banks still have them??? I realise they are pretty much worth face value but it's so annoying that I cant find them. I have most of what I need for the series including all the premium notes..
Check with Lew Dufault. Lew is my "go to" guy when it comes to $2's. You can reach him at www.lewdufault.net, or call him at 828.464.8803, and let him know that Steve in Tampa sent you his way.
Thanks Steve. Lew has a lot of nice notes with great serial numbers but alas, nothing that fits the bill, so to speak. well maybe a New York 76 star. I did ask about the elusive high serials. I'll keep on looking though.
Welcome to banknote collecting! :smile I think most of us have experienced the frustration of trying to find the one or two notes needed!
It appears that several of the higher-numbered print runs have yet to leave the Federal Reserve Banks. I've been collecting the series by print run myself, and so far I've got 31 of the 36 circulation runs. I'm missing: A06400001A-A12800000A D12800001A-D19200000A E12800001A-E19200000A G19200001A-G25600000A J06400001A-J12800000A Each of those are the highest-numbered run for the respective district, so would presumably be the last to be released. Additionally, I obtained the final runs for districts K and L within the past few months, so I don't think they've been out for all that long.... I'm located in district G myself, and lately I'm getting new straps in the G13..A and G14..A ranges from the banks. The Series 2003A $2's were printed in 2006, and the Federal Reserve recently disclosed that they anticipate ordering another printing of $2's in fiscal year 2012. So the supply of 2003A $2's is expected to last for another year or so before running low, so it makes sense that a small but solid minority of them would still be in the FRB vaults in CU condition. By the way, it's likely that a significant number of 2003A $2 F..* notes are still at the BEP, waiting to be used as replacement notes during the next $2 printing. Thus my guess would be that prices on these will come down in a year or two as more of them get out. A substantial portion of the 2003A printing used old leftover 2003 stars as replacements....
