I bought mine on eBay several years ago. I don't remember the price but it was substantially more than 5 cents.
Cool. I wouldn't mind adding one of those to my collection. I'm assuming that he also made other dates - have any of those been identified? Or, is it possible that some of his earlier nickels are sitting in slabs today?
He did make other dates GeorgeM, but I'm not sure what years. I was down my friend's coin shop today and mentioned about the "Camden Nickels". I said in an earlier post that he had showed a couple of examples to me about ten years ago, but wouldn't sell me one (and still won't). He said back then they were selling for about $20 apiece,, but isn't sure what they're worth today...he thought maybe about $50. As a matter of fact, a guy brought two in the other day to sell, but turned down his offer of $40 for both. He told me the workmanship was quite good and would fool most people, so the other dates he made are probably still floating around somewhere. They actually dredged the river at the time and supposedly recovered about 200,000 of the 250,000 he dumped there. All in all an interesting story. Bruce
1939, 1944, 1946, 1947, and 1953 Hennings was sentenced to 3 years in jail and had to pay a $5,000 fine. Small price to pay for something as horrible as counterfeiting money, huh?
