I was wondering if anyone knew how much this is worth. Someone told me $45, but I just wanted to be sure. The back is about in the same condition as the front and there is only 2 pinholes.
Can't the value be affected depending on where the pinholes are placed? (For example, if someone way back then thought it was funny to put two pinholes in Washington's eyes, wouldn't it be worth less if another would have two of the same size pinholes not on major devices. Which one do you think is worth more [rhetorical question]?)
Any type of eye distraction be it writing tears pin or staple holes will affect the value Greatly even if the note is in gem condition as much as 30% in some cases more!
same note I have this item. It has no pin holes. It has the number 3 in the center of the back with lots of writing. What is it worth?
If your note is in the same condition, it would probably be worth the $40-$55 mentioned. The original note has possibly 4 pinholes that I would need clarification on, has no left hand margin and leaves the question: does it have a light or dark background behind the portrait, undetermined. I'm guessing this is a light background on this currency. Paper quality is another factor to consider (stiffness, crispness). If we are talking retail pricing, the prices quoted by others would be for a VG10 or F12 graded note. The retail price could be as high as $140-$350 in an uncirculated 63 version. For meaningful opinions you should always include a picture of both sides of the actual item. There could be soilage, printing or handling problems on one side and not the other.
I have been looking at this since you made the post. This is one of 2 main varieties that exist. A "Light Curtain" (the area behind Washington's Portrait) is not as dark as the "Dark Curtain variety. It also has the 3 pearls at the center of the pendant beneath the portrait where the 2 sections meet in the center. As of value? I have no idea. Ever since USS656 posted a picture of a little note I have been excited by them and 1 of my books is on these notes.
