I ran across this "thing" among a bunch of coins I bought from a dealer's junk box. At first I was just going to throw it away, but then I got the thinking maybe its really something afterall. It looks like a brass stamped design for use in buttons or some such. Its very thin, and its obviously been punched because the obverse design is exactly the opposite of the obverse design..that is raised portions on the obverse are indented on the reverse. It weighs 0.9 g, and is 21.5 mm in diameter. Its brass colored, but very soft, it bends easily. It has a hole in it perhaps for hanging on a childs charm bracelet, or some such.
It's a token from Persia (Arabic) maybe, first word is Sultan, second word is Mahmoud, this could very well be a ceremonial token handed out at weddings. Lots of guesses, keep looking.
Calumsherwood...very good!! I did some web surfing looking for belly dancing token and belly dancing coin. I found a web site that was selling the tokens and they had a picture that was almost identical to mine. Barring any additional replies that might indicate its something else, I'm going to inventory it as a belly dancing token.....Thanks very much...Bill
