Hello all, Stopped down at a local antique shop, The coin dealer there had a 25 cent box... Here's three of the 24 I bought. Nothing special when it comes to rarity or mintage, I just think they are beautiful coins and thought I'd share. 1964 France 10 Centimes - KM#929 Mintage of 93,409,000 1964 France 20 Centimes - KM#930 Mintage of 127,521,000 1964 France 50 Centimes - KM#939 Mintage of 41,446,000 Thanks for looking, N.E.V.
the ones immediately prior to this set were a beautiful and simplistic design, but the marrianne coins always have that extra panache which coins from other countries find it difficult to match. i am a self confessed french currency fanatic and these coins are amongst my favourites.
I agree, The scans of these coins don't do them justice, I need to work on my coin photography, They are really beautiful in hand.
french coins are never dull and boring, from the hammered coins of the middle ages right up to the newest euro's they are always beautiful. any young collector just starting out should make an effort to find french coins to fully appreciate the superb things that this hobby can bring.
i also am a lover of french coins and imho they have some of the most beautiful coin designs ever. this is one of my favorite french pieces that i have
What is interesting about that piece, from a type collector's point of view, is that the 50 centimes was soon considered to be too similar to the 0.20 coin. So while the 10 and 20 centimes coins stayed the same for about 40 years, the 50c piece was only made in 1962-64 and then replaced by a nickel "half franc" coin. Christian
