Paper Money: Guess the Grade

I like that idea, immensely! In fact, I have wondered why the typical coin grading system, the Sheldon Scale hasn't yet incorporated decimal points between grades. Coin collectors are obsessive enough and divided enough in opinion to warrant such a development to the old system.

LOL! I wish I had more notes ready to share at this time. I'm very happy to see Clay offered a note and that there is a lot of interest in keeping this thread/topic alive.

I'll give the 1928 $500 note a PCGS 55. I'm concerned about the stains and corner bumps despite the bright paper tone and vivid green ink, which may win this note a better designation along with the grade. I am very impressed with the low SN too. If a grader were also, I wonder if the note might not get a 58.

I actually have about 120 graded notes and would be glad to step in, if people
    Dont mind grading Mpc :)

I don't know them well but I'd be willing to try grading. Could always learn something in the process so it can't hurt.

This is another note sent to PCGS Currency:

It is difficult to see in the scanned image, but look at the second "T" in "STATES" and I believe you will see a fold line.

I think that center crease knocks it down to AU58 EPQ If not for that crease it would have graded much higher I think.

    It's a beautiful note!!!

    $1 Series 1928:

I do see the center fold in the scan, but this note looks really strong. I also see on the reverse a tiny stain. It is hidden in the top border (not in margin), just right of center between the green and white border patterning. It's reddish in color, very small.

    If PMG 58EPQ
If PCGS New 61(the fold keeps it from 62 or higher)

The area of the reverse in question:

Since you are a PCGS guy I will only guess by their scale:

PCGS Very Fine 20 but it could slide in at VF25.

I compared your note (the first image below) to a similar note that was graded PCGS Currency Very Fine 30PPQ (the bottom image below). The center fold in your note is more pronounced and the corners are rounded more. I believe that's a pinhole at bottom center to the left of the fold line. I think the note will be in the Very Fine 20-25 range.

On the USA $1 i,am going to say A/U 55PPQ i think the crease knocks it down a little bit
More then would be allowable for 58 plus the crease which would affect the
    Over all eye appeal.

Okay then I will offer a PMG grade guess too, just in case
    ...

Since you are a PCGS guy I will only guess by their scale:

PCGS Very Fine 20 but it could slide in at VF25.

If PMG Choice Fine 15. I think they'd be much tougher on the wear on this note.

If it was just me and not going so closely to the above two TPGs, I'd probably bid accordingly as if the note was a VF25. The paper is still bright despite wear and while it has deep folds and perhaps some fraying at corners and top/bottom of center fold on margins, I'd be content if I paid for this note at the high grade.

The $1 red seal I would say 58 as well, the $10 MPC I would grade as 25. I don't think it is actually a pin hole, I don't see it on the reverse. (Is it?)

You're right. It must not be a pin hole, because it does not appear on the image of the back.
