Won this on the 'bay yesterday. I LOVE the reverse design on this coin. First modern commemorative I've picked up (only one that interests me). Don't know why they advertised it as a proof as the D mintmark is obvious lol. Not a bad deal IMO w/free shipping. Thoughts appreciated! And I'll post pics when I get it. Thanks, Tyler
That's just it! No one can see it, and Tyler didn't say which one. We were just having a little fun. Well, we know it must have been minted sometime between 1982 and 2010, and the only proof coin I can recall that was struck in Denver was the 1984 Statue of Liberty. Chris
The First Modern Commem... the 1982 George Washington 250th Anniversary of Birth, silver half dollar. Uncs were struck in Denver, Proofs in SF. Nice coins and easy to pick up for about melt and not much more.
Whoo-eee Tyler really needs to come back and fix this thread! Actually the Statue of Liberty is from 1986 and there are no proof modern commems minted at Denver. And if you read his post he doesn't say he got a proof, just that it was listed as a proof.
Sorry! My mistake, but I still seem to recall that Proof production was moved to Denver one year when Philly was upgrading equipment. Anyone remember this or am I just nutz?
Well, you're a nut for sure , but regardless, I dug up an old Clinker thread to help us out: Trivia - Denver Mint • The first commemorative coin to bear the "D" mintmark of Denver is the 1933 Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar • The last commemorative coin struck in Denver: 2001-D Indian Head Buffalo silver dollar. • The only modern PROOF coin struck in Denver: 1984-D $10 gold Olympics proof.
Nah, just having some fun. Now if we can just get Tyler to fill in the blanks from the OP we can all rest well tonight... :thumb:
Yep, I was only looking at silver commems. And Chris(cpm) you may be right about the Philly mint not minting proofs because of a shutdown. I seem to remember something like that too. I know some years the West Point mint also did some proofs, perhaps thats what you were thinking of.
