Right Sacs, SBAs & Ikes. Yes. And I always carry dead PreZ dollars for tips. But I think some posters are trying to lose their credibility on purpose in this thread. I don't spend a Merc anymore as a "dime". But I've got Scott blood in me. .
Never had a problem spending dollar coins, but I typically don't get halves. But when the presidential dollars first came out and the missing edge letters was getting news I bought $60 worth with no luck. The first time I spent them at mcdonalds the cashier immediately started looking at the edges - after that she counted and gave me change. Just thought it was interesting.
Well this is a little bit in the reverse but i was in target yesterday and when the cashier Was about to hand me my change she had a old looking penny in her hand and put it Back in the till, i thought that was to funny!
Nothing like the reaction I got on Thursday driving home from Long Beach coin expo. Took the 73 toll road and was pi$$ed that I had to pay $5.50 for using it. So I gave the lady a $5 bill, one quarter and 25 cents. She was pi$$ed! If looks could kill!
I got 5 Ikes at the bank and didn't need any of them. And from what I have read here the guys say people don't recognize them. So I thought I would have some fun and pay for something with them. Well, I handed them to a clerk at Costco along with currency. She never missed a beat ! Dropped them in the tray like she did it several times each day. Man, what a disappointment that was !! gary
All the time. Get SDA and Presidential Golden Dollars, Sacs, and Nat Am, dollars in change from NYC MTA subway vending machines on a regular basis. No one blinks twice here in the urban area if you attempt to spend dollar coins. It is however rare to be able to find a bank teller with half dollars or Ike dollar coins available upon request.
This literally made me lol in real life Then this reaction with the bolded quote made me lol even harder Coinman thats gotta be one of the best stories I seen on here haha
I used a $2 bill yesterday and the cashier asked if it was real, then proceeded to use a marker on it to see if it was real or not. lol. He said he never seen one before.
I actually used a wad of $2 bills to buy something at the mall, and had security called on me. They all know of me as "That guy with the $2 bills"
"Speechless? No. I have gotten the "duhh..." reaction more than once, though. There are an awful lot of people out there working cash registers who've never seen a half dollar, and think it must be a dollar coin."-jeffB There are an awful lot of people out there working cash registers who cant add or subtract and the art of counting back change is lost upon them.
While in Mexico with another couple, the guy gave me a whole bunch of Mexican coins in payment for his share of our dinner bill. Not wanting to lug those big copper coins around in my shorts, I left them for a tip. I knew I made a mistake when the waitress took them to the cashier and they called the manager, cook, busboy and valet over to see them. It made quite a stir. lol At least someone had a nice day of it.
Indeed....$2 notes are by far the most fun to spend. Love when the cashier is about 16 or so....they are completely clueless and have to ask the manager 99% of the time.
Its pretty pitiful actually. I'm the worst nightmare to people trying to confuse a cashier on purpose lol. They'll hand me change after I punch it in the computer and I rarely miss a beat unless its weird numbers or my brain isn't functioning fully lol.
And it's true. She was a Walmart cashier . Poor thing didn't have any gum to snap after I left the register . I laughed about that for weeks.
Some nights, while lying in bed, that scene comes to mind, and than i'm awake for at least two more hours. It's hard to get it off my mind , replaying those indelible visuals .
