Hello all, this is my first post and just want to say I really enjoy the forums..especially the strap/roll searching threads! So fun to see what is still going around out there. Anyway, I have the chance to buy a set of low serial number graded bills and was looking for some input. They are #'s 00000500, 600, 700, 800 and 900. 5 and 7 are PCGS 68PPQ and the rest are 67PPQ. Any idea on a fair price for the set? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks -Chris
Hello Chris, and welcome to the CoinTalk currency forum. In answer to your question concerning 3-digit serials, there is no simple answer. It's great that they're graded, and at such high grades. The owner has at least $60 invested in face value & grading for the lot, maybe more. The market dictates the selling price, and right now, I've found, the market to be soft. To give you an example, I collect notes 00000012, and any other notes like 12000012, 00012000, etc. I found a seller that had purchased 1000 $1's, and had serial 00000212 for auction on eBay with a starting price of .99. I won the auction for $23, and asked if he had more. He indicated he had 00000312,00000412,00000512, and so on up to 00000912. I offered $15 each, he countered with $20, and we setteled on $17.50 each. Keep in mind these were raw notes, BUT from a dealer, (Jim at Tickle your Fancy) that I have bought from before and trusted. You might want to find his website, and shoot him an email and ask his opinion also. Good luck Chris, and I help this helps. ...I wanted to add that these RAW notes have GEM centering.
Steve, Thanks so much for the detailed response. I have seen you post notes before..you have quite the impressive collection! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any 12 bills to send your way :thumb: I will try to do a little more research into it and see what I cant dig up. I will also contact Jim and try to get his opinion. Thanks again!
If you want to see wildly expensive very low serial number notes, check this out: http://coins.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...dkw=&_osacat=3412&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
Quite a selection of serial # 1 notes. Most of them are from Billy & Willie Baeder over at USA Rare, some are from Jhon E Cash, and I saw one from Jess Lipka (Denoms)
It is a common tactic. Quite a few dealers list notes with a highly inflated price and a notation of "buy it now or best offer".
I totally agree. I once offered $1,200 on a note with "Buy-it-Now" price of more than double ($2,500), and they countered with $1,500. I ended up with the note for $1,300.
I have a bill that I am interested in on what the going price should be, its a pretty low serial number... a 1995 one dollar bill serial number J00000066G just took it to my local coin shop and he said it was in fine condition
