It seems like there are often many people like this seller in all areas of business that seem to thrive. They will have theirs one day. I hope everything works out for you and you get your money back.
With eBay's new buyer protection policy, you'll not only get your money back... but may get to keep the coins.
Filing on ebay is the only way to go with con artists like this guy. Whatever you get back is a bonus. Bruce
Probably counted the police action in Korea as a "World War", although from accounts of vets I have spoken to, it may well as been if you were in battle.
Read the description and truly didn't see any out and out lies. It was well written to lead you to believe there was the possibility of finding a "treasure" without guaranteeing you would. He never said when the coins were put into flips. It's possible I guess that this could have been done when sorting the items for sale ? It sucks that some guys will stoop to the edge of honesty to make a sale or a few bucks. We all have gotten sucked into a bad deal at one time or another, especially when buying unheld items. File a dispute, but don't expect much. Maybe they will take your side ? Good luck ! gary
If you paid with paypal just open a dispute, and it may take some time, but you will get your money back.
My recommendation would be to negative feedback him. Your response should be: "I found only old junk in this 'treasure pile'. I won't shop here again." It's true and it speaks for itself. He can protest a negative feedback and have it removed. Based on his add, he didn't outright lie, or at least you'd have a tough time proving it. He might be successful in protesting your negative feed-back. So if you really want to throw him the old curve ball, leave him a positive feedback, and say the same thing. People do read those, and they're harder to remove.
I hope this situation will encourage the OP to recognize those EBAY offerings in the future which clearly is nothing more than a " Gamble " with your money . Live and Learn .
Always check the auctions that go with the feed back, check as many as possible especially with a new seller. This can give you an idea of what they are selling. And if this new seller has nothing but private auctions I would avoid him. I hope you paid with cc and paypal - these two should definetely get your money back. Good luck!!
what about this " and this time in stead of 4 or 5 there were 24 or 25 coins in the 1800's and I stopped counting there" This implies he doesnt know how many of these coins are there, so he could not possibly handle them. There are 26, all that werent pictured were culls. Another one : "These have always gone over well because there from an old coin collector that flattened every coin, you just don't go to that kind of trouble unless you do not want the coin next to it damaged." Another one: "By the way the tops of the boxes are marked on, one has a list of country's and the other say's labeled 1800's oh, and some have prices on them, you can see some in the pic's." that implies that these coins in these flips with these prices came from the alleged collector, who allegedly died years ago. Edge of honesty? No, this is fraud. I dont know what $$ must be for it to be a felony or a misdemeanor, but if any law enforcement agency cared enough to make a handwriting expertise, this guy wouldnt be ebaying for awhile. ..................................................... vlad's commodity blog www.ironrye.blogspot.com
There are tons of sleeze bags like this dude on ebay and I'm glad to hear you're taking him to task! WTG!!
I just read his 2 Neutral Feedback's. On the second neutral feedback, he calls the two people who left him the feedback "bitter" just because they spoke the truth about this guy. What a loser. P.S. I hope this does not make you feel any worse about your purchase, but if you go to neutral feedback, the second guy got the exact same lot for only $48, while you got it for $132. I realize that the bidding is totally up the the buyers, but it seems a little bit odd...
One thing I've learned from ebay is that "unsearched" means that they've definitely been searched and culled at least twice. I bought an "unsearched" roll of nickels with a very rough shield on one end and a pretty rough V on the other end. Surprise, surprise, the other 38 nickels were crap buffalo with not a single legible date. He said I could return them but the hassle and shipping losses would have made it a wash.
I dunno, this sounds kinda like buyer's remorse Why is it this guy's fault that you got "taken"? I read through the description and checked the photos. Yeah, the story was a little on the embellished side. I buy box and bag lots of foreign coins at live auctions all the time. I will only bid up to what I think the lot is worth to me. Did you pay too much for this lot? Absolutely. At 6 cents apiece, 250 coins would run you about $15.00. But how hard did you look at this lot before you bid? Did you get caught up in "Auction Fever"? There are thousands upon thousands of posts regarding eBay scams just like this one. One reason why I don't use eBay to purchase. Was the seller morally right? No, but free enterprise makes descriptions like this possible (ever buy a car?). The fact that this auction attracted 21 bids means you are not alone. But I saw nothing in the description that could be termed "fraud". Keep in mind you continued to bid until you won the auction. How is this the seller's fault? Sorry to be so negative, but a little closer look at the pictures, taking the description with grain of salt, and limiting your bids to what you thought the lot was worth, all would have prevented the situation you find yourself in now.
Handwriting on the shipping box and slabbed coins and boxes that you can see on the pics match exactly. How is that not a fraud? Did you read the description?
First off, the coins aren't "slabbed". They are in 2x2 holders. If you look at my collection you'd see very few are in the same 2x2's they came in. And they are marked in the same handwriting. Mine. Same with the boxes. I must have missed the part of the description that said they were in original slabs. So where's the fraud?
RANT RANT ! Just go ahead and take care of business. If you feel you have been victimized , take the required steps to resolve this with the Seller . As a Buyer , you have EBAY Protection. Ranting about it here, isn't going to resolve a thing. I will also say, your bringing this to the CT membership's attention is welcomed , and collectively we can grab the attention of the EBAY administrators to act on a given listing depending upon the situation , but this one , it seems your on your own . I can only hope that you may have learned a thing or two about reading between the lines. Once you have entered a file to contest this sale , please do let us know how it was resolved . Hopefully to your reasonable satisfaction.
Thats because it is YOUR collection. Not one of a deseased 94 yo that fought WW1 at the age of 2. Anyways, why are you so jumpy about it? Its not up to you or me to decide if something will be done or it will be swept under the carpet as countless other things like that. As they say, investigation and prosecution are at the discretion of the receiving agencies.
