I No What Sort Of Coin This Is The Problem Is That The Birds Stand If You Like Has 2 Collers Across Can Any 1 Tell Me If They Have The Same Picture In Any Of There Books And An Idea Of Its Value Thanks Nicky
Hello HNICKY9 and welcome This coin is a denarius struck by Marc Antony before he was defeated at Actium on 21 september 31 BC. Those coins are very common for the different legions. What you see on the reverse of your coin is a legionnary eagle between two standards (they where used as flags are now to identify a legion). The obverse shows a galley They are usually worth 300-400 $ in VF (yours is not, from what I see) Is that what you wanted to know ? Below is an image of a similar one for the Legion IV Cucumbor
Thanks For Your Reply Yes I Have Found That The Coins Are Very Common But We Have Looked On The Net And In 1 Or 2 Books And Cant Find 1 With 2 Rings Around The Staff The Bird Is Pirched On Could You Please Have An Other Look And Tell Me If This Makes A Difference Thanks Nicky
It would be much easier to read and understand your posts if you would not capitalize the first letter of every word and please try to use some punctuation marks.
HNICKY9, I think I understand the question. The perch that the eagle is sitting on has a top section that actually supports the bird and the staff has a series of rings that decorate it.All of the legionary denari have this but from what I can learn, there are 3 variations. #1 has no branch sticking out to the right #2 has a branch coming out at a right angle #3 has a branch coming out at a 45 degree angle I don't think this affects the value at all as all are pretty common. Hope this answers your question.http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=antony legionary denarius&btnG=Google+Search&sa=N&tab=wi Here are illustrations of all three types:
