They'll price themselves out of customers. With $67+ silver proof sets (which I seriously doubt will hold that price on the aftermarket) this could very well be a low production year. Say nothing with regard to the price of bullion since at $28.07 per ounce the bullion in this years set is only $37.61. Silver has to exceed $50 per ounce before the sets are worth bullion value.

Don't get me started on the $15 per bag increase on the America the Beautiful™ Quarters or the $4 per set increase on the Presidential Proof Sets either. Of course, those Presidential Proof sets may just die off since the exact same lens is available in the $67+ silver proof sets or the $31.95 regular proof sets. I imagine the only reason the sets sell in the first place are the modern coin flippers with their First Strike™ slabs and those (ah hem!) PR70DCAM coins.

I'm with you. This is the first year I am considering not buying anything from the mint.

They have indeed. The 2011 Silver Proof sets are $72. and change . We are sure paying a price for having these being released this early in the year.

I'm going to be attending a local coin show this Friday and I'm going to check see if anyone is offering the 2011 Silver set and see what they want for it. I hope it's less than what the Mint is selling it for. I understand metal costs have gone up but after a certain point there's a different between making a profit and gouging your customers.

    They sure are "purty" though.

I really like the clad Army Commem half, but I think it is too much money for a clad coin. JMHO. Not buying it from the mint.
