[IMG] 1996 'S' Silver PF69 and 1996 'W' MS66 Dimes.jpg Hello..I believe any coin I buy from a collector is searched. I buy most of them under the very true premise that I miss things. I guess they do the same.
I have bought several rolls uncirculated. When I got them..two of them were 'colored' or lightly toned. The quality of the coins were still MS.
My 'rule of thumb', which is not unbreakable, is..buy OBW..(original bank wrapper)..with a money back guarantee. Without the money back it really is 'your baby'.
I rarely buy from anything but large dealers. My reason for this is, human nature being what it is..it is safer. They have pounds..in some cases tons of pennies..silver..even gold. Many of them go for 'best known' spending anything to get it. My point is..save the now and again fouled employee..you usually get what you pay for.
I am awaiting a 1994 Matte Nickel I got for an amazing 39.95. I intend to have it slabbed by PCGS. This coin will do nothing but go up in value and is beautiful. I got it from 'Dave's Coins'. It was the least expensive..credible nickel in that year and proof I found. I am going for a '97 next.
The scans here..though not of top quality..(still have to try photobucket)..are slabbed and that slab is verified by me.
The first is a PF69 'Silver' 1996 'S'. A modern coin with a mintage of less than a million. A tip on this coin..if the last number on the PCGS slab is a two..is is a non silver DCAM. The silver has a 3.
The second is a hot item..though not silver it was only made one year..a 1996 'W' dime with a mintage of less than two million. I have this NGC in MS66 and am awaiting an ICG MS67 which I got a good deal on in auction.
I use several resources to learn. For mintages and quick referance..http://www.coincommunity.com/us_coin_facts/.
When I buy something that is not slabbed, with a number I can see, I know it is chancy.
If I really want something..I post a minimal bid..then post a bid that I am willing to pay. This technique has saved me a lot of money. E-Bay only keeps you in a winning position..until your high bid is reached. Then they notify you.
I will have to post the scans in a minute..I have not put them into my cyberfiles yet..Tony67

    Uhh...?

You clearly don't get the premise of the thread... this is what happens when you post before reading the thread a little bit.

    Try again, homeslice.

Gas stations? How do you hit up gas stations......Do you just ask "Do you have any old coins you want to get rid of?"

    Curious...

Every time I go into a gas station, and I do this every time, I ask if they have any halves. If they have them, they love to get rid of them. If they dont, they usually say that they have other other, unusual ones, typically the golden dollars. The ASE is rare, its the 2nd one Ive ever found, and I usually have to give more for it, the counter person has put the dollar in the drawer and put it in their pocket. But try it, I always find something every week.

Did a box of pennies today which turned out pretty good. I didn't roll the pres yet but probably about 25% were pres. I found 41 wheat pennies with the oldest one being a 1910!(oldest one I have found in circulation before this was a 1912.) There was also 27 Canadians in the box.

    Bob,

Remember James? He is a BIG gas station searcher. That is where he gets all his stuff. I have tried a few but not had any luck myself.

    Hello everybody,

This is my first post, but I have been reading this forum for awhile now. I just had to write down what happened today. I drove to a little town and spent $492.00 on halves and hit 10-90% and 10-40%. I was pretty happy and thought I'd stop by my bank. They said they didn't have any halves except the bag they were filling, but there was still $260.00 to go to reach $1000.00 before they could sell it. I said how about if I dump some halves to fill it to $1000.00 and they said ok.

I hit the grand jackpot of all-time. I don't think this little bank had filled a bag in 30+ years. Here is what I received:

    38-Kennedy's-90%
    110-Franklin
    98-Standing Liberty
    15-Barbers
    1-Canadian
    119- JFK-40%

I'll be doing this a ton more after this experience!!

P.S.-Could somebody please explain to me what a WAM penny is. Thanks

    Welcome to CT!

a WAM penny is "Wide AM", where the AM in AMERICA are separated by a small gap due to proof dies being used on some 1998, 1999, and 2000. Normally the letters are very close or touching.

Great find with the bag! Not very often frankies are found, not to mention walkers and barbers!

Wow. Just wow. That is a jackpot and a half, with a side of jackpot. Wow.

That's like, $2600 purely in melt. Man, I dream of a find like that.

Thanks for the info. I have been pulling copper pennies heavily over the last month and kept seeing WAM pennies. I dump $50.00 bags in my Ryedale machine to sort. Do you think I should slow down and look for these?

Only WAM's worth keeping would be made after 1992... 1993-2008. Basically, a WAM from that era is a proof die... they change the circulation strike die design in 1993. There's only three years they are known to exist, though, 1998, 1999, and 2000. If you don't enjoy it, I'd say the only one worth checking for would be the 1999, as they're quite scarce compared to the 1998 and 2000.

The other transitional variety you might wanna keep your eye out for would be the 1992 CAM's... from both mints. 1993 reverse dies that snuck into the 1992 runs. This site here has a ton of good reading on 'em.

I am terrible at posting pictures(not a technical person), except on EBAY. I'll try to figure it out in the next day and post a picture.

I am selling $100 face 90% for $1950 cash and $50 face 40% for $380.00 cash. I am keeping the Barbers and most of the Standing Libertys.

I was absolutely stunned. I ordered like $2000.00 in boxes today(probably won't do very well with those though).
