:rollling: I can almost hear it now. A 2 in Roosevelt's Ear. It is the only thing that fits. The scans do not properly show it..unfortunately. I am in the process of upgrading that all important feature of my system. It is there..just at the bottom of the ear..where it opens above the lobe..there is a rise that is the exact size and curve of the '2' below. Below that..in the lobe there is the tail of the two. Measured in mm the tail goes with the curve to complete the two. obv. of a 1970 pennie lamination error. The error goes from about 4 oclock to 2 oclock obv.
Hi Tony67, and welcome to Cointalk! I'm sorry, but it's a bit hard to tell from the pictures, but I don't see anything in particular in the dime. For the cent, I see some marking from SW to NE, but I can't tell what it is. If you have a digital camera, you can use the macro function to take a cleaner picture
If you're scanning, scan at the highest DPI and upload to something like photobucket but don't edit the size. Copy the "IMG" link and paste it here. It'll allow us to blow up the pic to see all the detail.
The dime is difficult and rather esoteric in nature from what I have learned. I am going to improve the quality of the scans so I can better share this type of thing. The penny is a very obvious easy to see error. It is one of the best lamination errors I have. Thanks for the welcome..Tony67
Thanks for the info. I do have a blog with Flickr so photobucket it is..until I can get a cam phone. The one I have now is kind of old and rq a 'photobridge' with a 'sim' card. Cool for that time..but this time is better..Thanks again..Tony67
I must say I am embarrassed over a misconception. Those of you who do errors to any extent know what I am talking about. The 2003 dime, though errored, and a mystery, does not appear to have a 2 in the ear. I put it under 40X magnification and recieved my comuppance. Sorry..for the mistake. I will be more and more careful..Peace Tony67
Yeah, the dates have not been punched into the dies in a LONG time, so the only way that could happen is if grease filled the 2 and then fell out and was struck as a dropped number. It's probably damage or a die gouge/chip/crack.
