This is an invitation to those members who are interested in British & British Commonwealth numismatics to join with me in a project here at CoinTalk.I think that it is time for an online British Commonwealth catalogue of coins, banknotes, traders' tokens, postal orders,& postal notes. If you are interested in joining this project, could you please leave a posting? WhispTech, you are also invited,as we can utilise your knowledge of Canadian & Jamaican medal-coins. Aidan.
I would be happy to assist you with the project, with any contribution I might make. Don't have any idea what that might be, but willing to try and be of some help. Thank for asking, and I hope you get it off the ground.:thumb:
Thanks,OldDan.There is a lot of interest in British Commonwealth numismatics, especially from people like myself, who collect the entire British Commonwealth, not just one or two countries or areas. Recently,I had my Chatham Islands numismatic article published in the British 'Coin News'.It has been a work in progress since 2003,as I was then the only member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand who was interested.I ended up pulling the plug on attending meetings after the R.N.S.N.Z. rejected my article.I finally pulled the plug on my R.N.S.N.Z. membership, because of some disputes, which I am not prepared to discuss here. We welcome all information that is listed in all the major catalogues.Cross-referencing between the various catalogues is a very good idea,so if someone wanted to compare values, then the catalogue numbers will help. Aidan.
De Orc,I am very glad that you liked reading my Chatham Islands numismatic article.No-one else over here in New Zealand was interested in studying them at all,so I ended up taking up this task, despite getting the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand's disapproval for this project. Here's a link; www.tokenpublishing.com . Aidan.
Why on earth would they disaprove? it was well written and informative and for me gave me a insight into something I knew very little about, ok I suppose that you could call it Cindarella Money but it was still used and in circulation just like the Cook Islands. Well done mate a big thumbs up to you on getting it published :thumb: De Orc :thumb:
De Orc,the R.N.S.N.Z. regarded the Chatham Islands notes as rubbish, but I regarded them as being worthy of study, just like some people regard the 'Black Sheep' notes from Wales as rubbish, yet someone has written a book about them, even though they are were a private issue that was put into circulation in early 1969.I have got 3 'Black Sheep' notes - a 5/-, a 1 Pound,& a 10 Pounds, plus the set of the Jason Islands notes (1979),which was issued in the Jason Islands, which are part of the Falkland Islands (Political comment deleted - there's a special forum for that.). Aidan.
Not something I realy know a lot about but as I say I cant see a problem with your article and nor could the mag other wise they would never have pubished it. Keep up the good work :smile Meant to ask as well do you have any interest in Coronation Medals? If so would you like a copy of H. N. Coles 'Coronation & Royal Commemorative Medals 1887-1977' as I find myself with 2 copies somehow LOL. If you would like it email me your addy and I will post it on. De Orc :kewl:
