In the Red book of Morgan Silver Dollars, QDB states that the 1892-CC was, for the most part, well-struck, but there are exceptions which should be avoided. This specimen may be one of those that should be avoided. Liberty's ear, the hair above the ear and the eagle's breast appear to be weakly struck. If that is the case, then I don't think it would garner better than MS64 or low-end MS65. Chris OT! This is another of the wide-bodied threads that I won't be returning to.
The surfaces of the coin look very clean and are most certainly MS65 material. My question is about the luster. The photo leaves me with the impression that the coin is rather lifeless. Also, are there slide marks on Liberty's ear? I can see either of those two issues easily bringing this coin down to MS64 and possibly MS63. I think it should reside in an MS64 holder.
It's pretty clean, but I think the weak strike holds it to a 64. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a 65 holder, though.
Is that a die crack from ED in UNITED and all of STATES? I have one that has that as well. Weak strike was mentioned but the CC is what gave it the 65 over 64. If that were an 1881 S it would be in a 64.
