SBA Double Die?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by cookiemonster12, Jan 27, 2011.

  1. I was searching through some dollar coins today, and found this one 1979-P SBA. It is a wide ri, so I'm pretty excited about it :) When I looked at it closer, to me, the "In God We Trust" seemed to look a bit funny. I don't know SBA's too well. Thanks in advance for the help!

    I don't see any doubling.......just a circulated coin.

I agree....looks to be circulated enough that the motto looks to be just 'flattened' a bit, making it a little wider......no matter how, it's not a doubled die.

I see something in the last "T" in trust, maybe if you try a different light source and another pic.

When a coin has circulated like this, you're liable to see all kinds of things!

I doubt the coin did much circulating, SBAs were unpopular and shunned from the moment they were released. The only places that gave them out were post offices (because they were required to) and military exchanges (also required).

To me, it looks like machine doubling from an old die (notice the polishing marks between the letters).
