I've always avoided buying anything from overseas on eBay, but I am working on a set of British pennies and there were some I could only find in Great Britain, so I bought one. Ebay says it "may take longer to ship," but I feel like it should have arrived by now. I bought the coin on Dec. 29 and it was marked shipped Jan. 4. Do you think it might still show up or is it a lost cause? How long does international shipping usually take?

When I have sent cards and letters to Europe it has taken up to like 3 weeks or so I think...maybe 2 at the least

Between the US and Germany, letters (including postcards) take about a week. What may slow things down is customs: If an item is held by the customs office of the destination country, expect a delay. But that primarily applies to packages and parcels ...

the UK postal service has been in chaos over the past 2 months, i only recieved a chrismas card this week which was posted in warrington (7 miles away) on 17th december. it looks like it's pot luck at the moment.

A-ha, now we know at least why we still have that Christmas banner at the top of every CT page. ;) Sorry to hear about those problems ... wasn't Royal Mail to be sold?

hopefully the royal mail will be sold to a company like fedex, who are much more reliable.

Since 2004, I have made about 200 purchases from my "French Connections", and shipping has never taken more than about 10 days.

Royal Mail offer various services. Airmail is used typically and normally takes less than a week, however there is a specific note currently on their Web site related to delays in deliveries to the US:

    http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/customerservice2?catId=122800769&mediaId=118600858

It may be your item has been delayed though are you sure it wasn't sent by 'surface mail'? This is a cheaper service but has a lead time of up to 6 weeks to the US:

    http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content3?mediaId=43200687&catId=400037

I used to sell records all round the world and some buyers would specify surface mail. Normal delivery time was 3-4 weeks.

I had an item shipped Dec. 14th from Great Britian; due to all the new security measures, small packets are taking about sixty days to reach their final destination. I'll be looking for it about the middle of February.
