I have a 1934 D Star note, it is a 50$ bill and the serial is D00009787. The bill is in circulated condition, but there are no rips or anything like that on the bill. Some guy asked me for change and handed it to me. Any information would help a lot as I have searched google and could not really find a whole lot of information.
If you can please post a picture of the front and back of the note. I have a feeling you mean something different than we expect when you say 1934 D. Is there a series letter directly under the date? Value will change depending on what that series letter is and what the grade is. Pictures will help solve both of those issues. Letting us know the series will help get you in a ball park though. Welcome to Coin Talk
I am sorry to say but from my studies of recent, there are no 1934 D Series Star Notes or regular issue notes printed for the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank. I, like the others would like to see a picture as well. Unless you are talking about a Fr 2102D* meaning a Series 1934 printed on the Cleveland Bank that is a star note. Not a Series 1934-D
I believe enkay just meant the serial number started with a D ~ not that the series is D. It would be an understandable way for someone that does not collect to describe the note.
I see and understand your point. Hope I did not come across the wrong way. I am somewhat eager and new to banknotes and have been filling my mind with this type of information. Please excuse me if I sounded rather hobnobish.
You're fine. For me it's always better to assume that the poster either did not understand something or just made a typo. In this case I just think enkay described it the best way he or she knew how. I hope enkay comes back and shares more information with us. Best Regards ~ Darryl
Well that is very interesting. It is a Series 1934 Cleveland Star note and according to my resources, it is a new low SN reported. In VF the price guides list it at $105. However, again from my studies this low number star may command a little bit more of a boost. How much? well I do not know enough to say but it would be attractive to even me if I could afford it. It is a non- mule as well with Dark Blue Green Seals. This was also printed in yellow green seals too. I am by no means a grading expert as I have just started in this hobby but your note does not apper to qualify for VF. I am not sure what grade assignment it may hold. Thats just my observation.
Well thats pretty cool. I count about 20k in cash a week at my job I need to be on the look out for interesting stuff like this.
enkay I really just started. A friend of mine presented a note similar to this a 1934 but with a yellow green seal and I was hooked. If you are considering keeping this then by all means ask some questions in the Paper Money Forum. What I have learned there in just a few weeks is well, amazing.
Welcome to CT! If you go through a lot of cash you really will have a lot of chances to spot fun and interesting things. Do you know how to -and- do you ever spot counterfeits? Do you have an average of those if you have come by them and what have you done with them if you have discovered any? You might also really like to learn from and begin participating in this thread: Strap-stackers post your results.
In the last 3 years 1 counterfeit has been passed. Wasn't by me. Soon as we count the cash the money gets sent to the bank.
I would very much suggest you get a copy of the "Standard Guide to Small-Size US Paper Money" by Schwartz and Lindquist. This doesn't cost much and will help you quickly asses the potential value. With that much cash going through your hands you need to know what to look for! Do you know what a web note is? There are many things that are out there that are worth more than face! You might want to read the boards as you will pick things up that are not in books or easily found. I agree with the grade and value estimate by Zeplyn along with the comment about lowish serial number. Not a bad find for $50! Best Regards ~ Darryl
