What would be consider sintered, This coin has fine detail but is not polished nor smooth?? Looks like sand blasted, but when sand blasting copper youll have nothing left, When the coins are struck are they polished???
When they first come out from the mint, they are lustrous. The only ones "polished", per say, are proof coins.
When the coin is viewed under magnification the coin looks to be rough, Like that of fine sand papper. Or it looks like the coin was casted. Could this have been the result of a cheical cleaning?? Or Has any one seen one like this?? Im opened this one roll up and its been filled with all types of error, sofare i have found three die clashes, 1 lamination error, 1 wheat that the weight is 2.5 grams, ect. I wonder if this was the error roll that i recived.
Wheat coin weighing 2.5 grams? The zinc core with copper clad penny was not introduced until 1982. I don't believe that there are any possible errors like that. The only thing I could think of is it being counterfeit. And I wouldn't bother getting the '83 graded. It's a neat coin, but it is pretty costly to have it graded, and it isn't worth too much. Still a cool coin.
How would you go about checking to see if its a conterfit???, Any ideas on possible wrong planchet, maybe foreign???
