Pulled this bad boy out of a roll today... was pretty shocked. I'm more concerned with the grade than the price, really, and if it's worth it to get it slabbed or if I should just sell it raw.
WOW!! Great find, Merc Crazy! I know it was out of a roll, but was it in a bank box? Pretty great find! Wish I could find something like that. :thumb:
Customer Wrapped roll... the thicker paper kind that are crimped on one side and folded on the other. Almost all of the $10 in rolls I got were like that, so I suspect they may have been bank leftovers or something? Thank god I went to a bank I don't usually go to on this fine afternoon, haha.
Hells Yeah! 99 at that! I make it a point to violently throw the close AM's into the recycle bucket with furious anger. Great find!
I see some nicks on the edging of the coin, along with a dig on top of the E would agree and say Probably between a 63 or 64 range
Yeah, lack of light is a major issue for me. All this snow we're gonna get tonight should make it easier for me to get some really solid pics tomorrow. 63/64 is right about what I was thinking though, it has some real nice luster on it.
Finally got some better pictures after working a ton and not having a chance to get a picture during daylight hours. Pardon the ****ty editing job.
Hey Merc, that's one heck of a 99 WAM you have there. The obverse looks clean and glossy with absolutely no wear. . The reverse looks the same too. I don't think the two bag marks/scratches will hurt too much.(one on the steps and one under the steps.) Your cent looks better than my MS-65 red. So I'm going to venture a MS-66 red for your cent by ANACS. I feel they grade LMC's more accurately than the other two IMHO. OH! Congrats, great find and thanks for working so hard getting the great pics. That made all the differernce in the world for me.
I think that's just an issue with the way sunlight reflects off the coin. If I get it slabbed, I'll probably send it in to piggyback on a dealer submission to PCGS. But thank you, it is indeed a beauty of a coin.
I've never seen a 99 WAM like that. What dies were used? What site can I go to to check this cents dies? All the 99 WAMs I've seen have die trails on or near the top of the memorial. Also and more prevalent are the die clashes between the columns. Merc your cent has none of these that I can see so I'm interested enough to ask.
http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/1999_1c_Rev_Dies.htm Mine is reverse die #4, I believe... Potentially an early stage #3 die, it appears they're not sure.
Thanks! I went there too and it did't really show me much. I thought all the dies were well documented by now. Oh well. Take a look at my WAM and see how much better yours is.
Well that didn't show much. Try these. See how much nicer yours is. These are scanner shots so they will look different.;
I don't think mine is quite as nice as yours, that's a beaut... if you look at the first pictures I put up, you should see what the sunlight and luster blurs out. EDIT: I also just listed it on eBay... we'll see if anybody takes me up on it at the price I listed, heh.
Better pics, just a hair over-exposed but....you can see the luster now. Should be good for MS-64/65 at any TPG. Definately get it slabbed.
Yeah, sun was bright... that was diffused sunlight, believe it or not. I blame the snow on the ground. If nobody wants to give me the $500 I'm asking for it (Ok, I'll negotiate a wee bit) I'll probably have it piggybacked on a PCGS submission. Thanks for the help, Thad.
