Hey guys, I'm new to the site and would like to start out by saying hello and that I've learned a lot from my short tenure here on CT. I searched for some info on buying lots (pennies and nickels) online and I've read that it usually does not yield good results. I bought 2 "lots" from mintproducts.com and I was wondering if anyone has success with buying these from actual reputable companies such as the one listed above. I bought a bag of wheat cents and a buffalo nickel roll to start my collection. Any chance that I will find anything good? Cheers -Jeremy
That depends on how you define good. The problem with buying lots is that most of the time you end up looking through coins that many others have looked through already. So no matter what you find, it's going to be somebody else's reject. Rarely will you ever find something that was missed. If you want something "good" your best is and always has been to pick out your coins 1 coin at a time and buy them that way.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Jeremy! On eBay or some other webstore, about the most common thing that has never been searched is a dictionary. Chris
There are some reputable companies out there for sure, but keep in mind that the word unsearched is seldom true. After 52 years, 99% of all wheat cents have been searched many times over.
When they say it,s unsearched it most likely is not true! this is a great buzz word on the bay! Dont full fort it!
Ebay's full of the great one-liner sales phrases. "I'm trying to raise money to pay for college..." "My father died, and I don't know much about coins..." "I'm not a grading expert, so please examine the pictures closely..." or my favorite: "...unsearched by me"
Some of us are trying to pay for college haha...but I don't use that line, and I only sell single coins that I do not feel like keeping in my collection....and I agree about ebay...
Welcome to CT! You should join our school: Newbie Institute. Watch out for these so-called "unsearched lots"!
