Today i received an empty package. This is the first time this has happened. I just mentioned that in another thread. It contained a BU roll of 1946 S Jefferson nickels.
I suppose I will get the shaft on this one. :(
    Here is the envelope:

It's happened to me as well. I really hate when folks ship rolls using envelopes, I never do. If you do use an envelope to ship ANY coins, you should always tape all 4 sides and a couple strips long-wise on each side with packaging tape. Too many of these get ripped along the edge.

Sorry this happened to you. If I were you, I would immediately file a claim with the U.S.P.S . Even Crooks are employed within the federal workforce .

I may be wrong, but doesn't the seller/shipper have to be the one that has to file the claim?

Happened to me last week. Envelope torn exactly as in OP photo, BU pennies plastic tube cracked and broken, about half of 50 coins were gone.

In this case , both would be wise to file a claim .

He can't file with USPS. The shipper has to file. However, if he bought it through eBay, if he files there, he will get his money back and then it will be up to the seller to get his own money back.

Bummer. I would definitely contact the sender and if ebay was involved, file a claim. The contents of the package is insured.

He can file a report of potential mail theft and or fraud. . You don't need to be the shipper to do that https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/...d/fraudschemes/mailtheft/ReportMailTheft.aspx See mail received without contents.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I contacted the seller. I will wait for his response before I do anything. It was done through ebay, so hopefully paypal will cover it. Its weird because it was mailed on the 11th, and the tracking number never worked through usps.com

Anyway, hopefully it will turn out in my favor. I will keep the thread updated in case it happens to someone else.

edit: I can't believe someone would ship a roll in an envelope for $4.66 when you can use a small flat rate box for $4.99. ugh

Either way , I strongly urge you to use the link I provided you . Not that they are going to compensate you , but they will take steps to investigate the possibility of theft within the USPS system. They know just how to set someone up . Hope it all works out for you.

Anytime you are purchasing a bulky item like a roll, you should realize that it probably will not go through the sorting machines without being damaged. I would just as soon request that the seller ship it in a USPS Priority box and pay a couple bucks extra.

I agree . That was truly poor packaging for rolled coins.

I've rec'd many times, coins in the mail that were not wrapped and/or secured. Got 3 rolls of 40% halves a couple of months ago in a flat rate box, and they were all loose inside! I wasn't very happy and in fact gave the seller a good verbal thrashing. I'm surprised they made it at all. Fortunately I've never had this problem - I hope you get it worked out...

Lazy and uncaring sellers . That would only happen once with me with any seller . Not a way to encourage repeat customers .
