This is a little different stat but I thought it might be fun to post some of our "best" finds. I know other parts of the country will make mine look meager but each got my heart racing (And my kids) and kept our thirst for our pirate like treasure hunts.) I have been roll searching since July 2009 (fairly new) so this is in a little over a year and a half. For the record, things have REALLY slowed down in the last 6 months and thus so have my efforts.

Anyway, top 5 roll searching treasure chests for me:

Number 6....1 full roll of 20 Franklin Half Dollars. Bank had exactly 1 roll, but I was not disappointed!
Number 5....$180 in CWR from customer service in a grocery store yielded 54 40%'ers and 11 90%'ers.
    Number 4.... 3 Walkers, 18 1964, and 21 40%'ers.
Number 3....Box of halves (Long while back) 77 silver halves - My kids were jumping up and down when we opened the box
    Number 2....$80 in CWR ALL 160 40%'ers.
Number 1....$200 in CWR 102 silver halves including 5 Franklins, 10 Walkers and 11 1964's.

These are not necessarily the "best" by $ value as I have a few others mixed in but these are the top ones for the WOW factor and fun.

after going halfway through one of the crappy boxes of nickels where you have to work the paper to break the roll and finding squat, I started one of my other boxes. It was a brinks tapped and labeled 'JAN 04'. First 5 nickels searched was a 1944 war nickel. I'll post the rest later, but this was a nice pick me up and thought I'd share

edit: now I'm confused. I found a handfull of 2007's in this box. I thought the brown tape on the sealed brinks box that said 04 to mean that it went through brinks in 04 and was sealed thn. Am I missing something? How could an 07 be found in an 04 sealed box?

edit2: I'm editing the snot out of this post I know but I just found an 08. Could "JAN04" Mean the 4th of January? If so it seems they're leaving the year out of the equation all together. I realize these might be newbie questions but I would think the system lor money tracking would be more sophisticated.

I got $25 face value of pennies were loose rolls rather than a $25 box of pennies since they didn't have any boxes of pennies available, and i just started going through them within the past half-hour and to me, it column seems like most of the rolls haven't been opened since 1987! This reminds me of the article in coin world that talked about the guy who got a bag of nickels that had been sealed since 1969. I've emailed the author of the "Found in Rolls" column when he wrote that article about finding the "save ten cents on x" advertising gimmick token wedged between two half dollar coins. I emailed him to tell him about how awesome finds like that can be and how I found a 1918-S wheat penny in a $25 dollar box of pennies.

It won't surprise me any if I find at least couple, possibly three to five, IHCs in this batch of pennies since it seems like the vast majority of these rolls haven't been opened since 1987.

    Roll Search update:

I made an enormous mistake of epic proportions while continuing my roll search. I opened an original bank wrapped roll of pennies that had the name of the bank, which was Equitable Bank and Trust in Baltimore and it was a complete brilliant uncirculated roll of 1975 pennies. I am now slapping myself for opening it because had I known something about that roll and had my head been screwed on right, I could have sold it on ebay for at least $10. Simply put, I flushed $8.50 down the John by opening that roll.

Me and my dad just started searching a couple of months ago for silver halves. We went around to several banks and got a couple rolls at each bank. I think we got around 20 rolls, 19 of them had nothing, 1 roll had 18 40% and 2 90%. Then a couple of weeks ago we started to do boxes. 1st box we only got 2, 1 40% and 1 90%. 2nd box 6, 4 40% and 2 90%. 3rd box 12, 10 40% and 2 90%. We also started searching pennies recently and have been consistently finding 25% pre-1982. The best find was one rubber band of $5 where all 10 rolls were complete pre-1982. Also found 5 dimes in the last batch. Oldest penny we have found was a 1912. Quick noob question for the board, what is CWR?

WOW aggiecollector, those are some CRAZY finds! What have you been doing with all the silver you have found?

I had to look at the post where you saw the acronym, CWR to figure out what CWR stands for, but I've figured out that CRW stands for Customer Wrapped Roll.

I didn't really search a roll, but I did find a 1936 d buffalo nickel in my cash resister at work the other day. Also, I went to the bank when I first started collecting, and bought 4 half dollars, and one of them was a '64. just right there next to the tiller. sorry about the misspelling, I'm tired lol

You blow me away with your bests....it's no wonder I don't have many big finds....you get to them first (we live a few miles apart)....Though I do have 2 really nice finds....I did get two solid rolls of BU 1964 halves once...and in $270 of CWR, I found 9 1964 halves and 64 40%ers. Both of those were a long time ago. Your 6 are just outstanding....

Mint state is a grade... mint mark is what you're speaking of, Derek.

Box of Nickels; Skunkalicious. :( First non-silver or Buff box in like, 2-3 months.

Box of dimes; 2 silver roosies.

Box of cents; halfway done with only one wheat. Must be my rejects or something, wtf?

To me they are crazy as well but many here have finds that will make mine look like nothing.( CWR-Customer wrapped rolls, BWR Bank wrapped rolls.

Welcome to the forum. If you are tyring to collect any certain type, let me know and maybe we can trade something. I know I still need 4 proofs for my "pulled from circulation" set.
