Why does the color look 'off' on this seated half? The design is half dollar, the color screams cent to me. A copper half dollar? That said, I can't read German, so the auction could very well explain it, maybe not... ??? Thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.com/9242-Vereinigte...19089?pt=Münzen_Medaillen&hash=item4aa7e58e11
Color could easily just be the pictures. But with the damage that coin has I would not even consider buying it.
It could be the light balance on the photograph. Then again, it could just be the way the piece toned. Here's a photograph of two coins from my "junk silver" stash. The George IV Crown was purchased at a Brimfield Antique show for $1 and weighs 27 grams, just as it should. Yet as the Peace Dollar shows, it's not just the light making the crown appear to be copper.
How did you even find this? BTW, I love to search the "world coins" category on ebay for american coins. I've gotten some great deals this way (most recently some silver certs at face value).
