is there any extra value / premium for a copper penny, besides the melt value?

  3. Mark: Welcome to CT! It depends on the year and the condition. You can check out the Red Book for details. TC

Currently it is illegal to melt cents and nickels or export them to be melted.

Actually I believe there is. I read somewhere that a cent is actually worth 1.6 cents! Fellow collectors, please correct me if I am wrong.

It's actualy sitting at 2.8 cents for the copper, and .62 cents for Zinc...

is that for non wheats? because i will pick through the whole like 4 thousand pennies to pick out the coppers, haha

  8. Wheats (excluding 1943-1945) are made of the same material as the early memorials (1959-1982)

I disagree. Other than melt, which doesn't mean much anyway because you can't melt them, Memorials have no added value circulated.

Melt value is a good reason to hoard, though... and plenty of UNC memorial cents hold a value over face.

Ok on UNC your right....but unless you live in Canada last time I checked it was illegal to melt them:D!

It's illegal to melt copper cents.

It's not illegal to melt the remnants of copper cents. ;)

We have one like 10x that size in our waste water treatment system here in town....its scary.....bad.... after seeing it shread that stuff, i have to laugh about one of the senior WWTP employees story : It stopped and they had to go down and check it out, and there was a 1/2inch drive, 3/4 socket that stopped it dead in its tracks.....interesting....

I was going to say!!! What I would give to drop a couple of my Carbide endmill in that sucker! I bet it would eat them, but it's going to take a couple teeth with it LOL...

Don't think the gov cares if people destroy a few here and there, but hundred thousand into bars - eeeee I would keep that on the down-low.... hmmm I bet there's a bunch of plating businesses that would buy those bars up hmmmm....

opps - almost forgot - has any one seen the muffen man?
