    Hey Guys,

Is this a mint error clipped planchet, or was this done post minting? I'm sure its the latter, but I am just guessing because of the strange angle of the clip and the strange damage around the clip.
Thoughts? Is my assumption accurate that a mint error clipped planchet would be a clean clip? Thanks.

    post mint damage, Sorry.,

If it were a true clip it would show the 'Blakeskey effect'.

For those of you who don't know about the Blakesley Effect, when a partial (clipped) planchet is fed into the upsetting mill to form the edge, the pressure drops to zero when it reaches the missing portion. This also causes the pressure to be reduced on the opposite edge of the planchet, i.e. 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, and the rim is not as well formed as it should be. Once in the coining chamber, this weakness of the opposite rim will appear as a weak strike with less than sharp details.

    PS. This is obviously PMD.
