I've read some about the artifical toning of coins, but I literally just got into coin collecting about a week ago, and would like some older members of the coin collecting club to give me your opinion on if this is fake or not? Thanks in advance!

It's pretty fake or not. I have heard brighter colors indicate artificial.

What are those black lines under the chin and above "In God We Trust"?

Would like to see a bit bigger pictures, from these I can't tell but I would say that the photo has been photoshoped/enhanced to brighten the colors

It's AT, color progression is through the roof wrong.

The coin is real as far as I can tell. The toning is suspect though. I think I can guess who the seller is, there's a seller on EBay whose Morgans all have this kind of toning. I'm fairly certain this is a photo from one of his listings.
His coins are pretty, but I've got to think they're all artificially toned, since the colors and patterns are all very similiar, no matter what the date/grade or mm of Morgan it is.

I won't get into the details on how chem toning is done, but typically the coins ar immersed into a solution and a current is applied. You can look for any marks where the contact was made which is typically the opposite side of the toning. Look for a small black contact mark. Most armatures will also use a solution that causes the hole coin to turn a light brown when it is put into the solution. btw: Don't want to scare anyone, but not all artificial chem toning is clown colors - just saying...
I actually suspect the coin cause you have crescents on both sides which is NOT common on natural toning caused by contact. But who knows, when using a more conservative approach to artificial toning not even the best experts can tell. An example of a conservative approach is using uber high content sulfur canvas bags... Something that takes decades can be replicated in a month or even a week...
PCGS had a short but sweat write up. Basically the toning should have depth, and if the toning looks to perfect than it's probably fake (Almost as if it were painted on with a professional airbrush)! Some of the most insanely beautiful real toned coins I looked at, look great from a distance while close up under mag - not so much.

I would suspect that is the seller's name.

    P.S. It says "ewbyup1051©"

Pertaining to the coin itself, it looks real. Now the toning...that is a different story.

I'm an ebayer and I know who the seller is as well. I'd just say what makes me suspect is the shear amount of these "toned" coins that he has for sale all the time.

I'm no expert but it looks like AT to me as well, the toned morgans that I have are only toned on one side. "not sure that means anything" The coin however is real.

Yeah, the seller I was talking about uses the ebay handle "cwboyup1051". I knew it.

If the black type on the coin says "cwboyup1051" then maybe I need to get my eyes checked. lol

It is comments like these that make me have no faith in your ability to fill the role of numismatic instructor.

Really? The photo I see shows repeating bands of yellow-magenta-cyan. The color progressions are correct and this coin doctor has gotten very good over the last year. His older work was easy to spot as AT. His current work shows indicators of both NT and AT. He over saturates his photos in order to hide the fact that the coins are AT. Over saturating is basically an equalizer of AT and NT making it almost impossible to discern the difference because of the photo enhancements. However, viewed in hand, the AT would be much easier to detect.

But there are other indicators of AT on this coin that the seller can't hide. First and foremost is his record of selling AT coins. Why someone with a reputation of selling AT coins would brand their photos with their own E-Bay seller name is beyond me. In addition, his coins all have two common characteristics of AT coins: they are all raw, and they are all common/inexpensive.

    The coin is AT.

I have no reason to suspect the authenticity of the coin, but I'm 95% sure that it is AT like most of the other posters. Not a bad coin, but no premium on the rainbows.
