Tonight's eBay follies...

This was one of those "snatched up seconds after it appeared" Buy It Now specials:

    FIVE 1800'S SILVER DOLLARS...LQQK!

Setting aside the fact that I assign any auction with "LQQK" in the title an immediate 50% devaluation, let's look at those five silver dollars: a 1921 Peace, 1847 Seated, 1878 Trade, 1883-CC Morgan, and an Ellis Island commemorative.

    Yeah, right.

Let's see what else the seller is listing. Looks like lots and LOTS of comic books. Oh, and another coin listing, this one for three silver dollars:

    THREE 1800'S SILVER DOLLARS...LQQK!

    An 1874 Trade.

    An 1878 Goloid.

    And... wait for it...

    An 1804 Bust.

Oddly enough, nobody's bidding on this one. Maybe the bidder who put up $175 for the first auction didn't have enough left to go all in on the second one. So, you still haven't missed your chance!

Luckily if they are fake, ummm wait, being that they ARE fake, if the buyer wishes Paypal will force a refund if the buyer wishes.

But the buyer most likely will not be able to tell that they're fakes.
If they don't know that from the listing, they never will (until they try to sell them).

Rather than be a bystander, report these when you see them.
I just reported the completed listing, and the new 5 coin, as well as the 3 coin as highly suspect.

Just reported also! No way those are real! NO WAY! They look flat, and it's listed as "SILVER" which is clear violation when they're most likely made of Zinc from China...

I wrote a polite note to the seller...

"Hi, Just incase you aren't a coin person, I thought I might let you know those coins appear counterfeit.
Just giving you a heads up so you may be able to track down your source for the coins and get your money back.
That is what is going to happen to you if you sell them... PayPal will take the money back from you.
    Good luck!
Just trying to save you from the headache and negatives that are likely to come your way."

I've done it a couple times before and folks are usually genuinely stunned, thankful, and even curious about it.

One time though, I had a seller reply in terrible english that I should mind my own business and threaten me if I was to comment on their auctions ever again. West coast seller...

Problem is eBay is not capable of confirming your report.
They definitely are NOT going to take action if they are not convinced.

On the plus side, TWO reports have been made about the same material/seller.
Because of that they MAY take a closer look.

Finally, I totally agree that we can't just stand there and say "tsk tsk".
Even if eBay does nothing listings such a these HAVE to be reported.

Probably only on the basis of the West Coast's proximity to ports which receive most of the traffic from China. Not, of course, that I would want to cast aspersions on any of the industrious citizens of that great nation, or the authenticity and/or workmanship of the items they export. ;)

Thankfully no one got burned on the second listing which has ended... Go look at the sellers other items!!!!
Anyone want a Mint State 1804 Draped Bust for 60 bucks??? He list it as a "SILVER DOLLAR" and at the bottom it simply says 'a copy'
Call me crazy but is't he dealing counterfeit coins right out of California? Don't see copy on it?

Just in case you missed it, eBay not only got rid of the 2 listings in the OP, but they got rid of 9 others he had already sold. I do not remember teh seller's name, so I have not idea if he got NARU'ed.
