    Hello,

I came across this coin earlier today and noticed the C in CENT was nearly worn off, while the ENT was still intact. My only guess would be that someone intentionally grinded the C off with a dye grinder or something.

What do you suppose happened here?

    Thanks,

    Karl

Since the circle in the same area is also very weak the cause was very likely due to a grease filled die.

Would that increase the value of it?

    No, not at all.

Probably the value will be lowered. Story might be different on proof coins though.

exactly as greg says, a grease filled die has caused the mis-striking, but it is not a genuine error. and worth no more than a normal 50cent from the same year.
