about how many coins are in a box, and how do you obtain a box, do you go to the bank or somewhere else?

depends what type of coins you are referring too I believe...you need to be more specific when you are asking a question like this.

I thought it was fifty rolls, at least in pennies. I don't see why you couldn't get your bank to order those.

if you are talking about a box for roll searching, a box of cents is $25, a box of nickels is $100, a box of dimes is $250, a box of quarters is $500, and a box of halves is $500. you can get them at a bank.

What I can't figure out is why a box of dimes is only $250? A box was half of the old mint bags before they went to the ballisic bags. But a bag of dimes was $1000, so why is a box only $250?

Well, if Swish513's figures are correct, a box is 50 rolls, period. I'm guessing, though, that it would be different for dollar coins...?

If a box of dimes were $500, the roll count would be different, but boxes of dimes, quarters and halves would weigh the same, at least.

(And if a roll of dimes were $10, the rolls would be too long and fragile for convenience, I suppose.)

Anyone know where you can buy empty cardboard boxes? I am looking for half boxes. My bank takes them sight unseen if they are boxed in an official ABA box but if I bring in just a cardboard box they count each roll and it takes a while.

They probably figured that it would be easier to make boxes that would contain the same number of rolls regardless of the denomination.

It's a good thing they didn't decide to make all boxes for rolls in the same dollar amount. Let's see........a $500 box of Lincoln cents would weigh about 350 lbs.
