Welcome to my coin question. I found this coin in Sri Lanka about 9 years ago and have yet to figure out what it is. There is an obvious shield with 2 lions and a crown on one side. There is what looks to be a V and two Os and a date resembling 1780 on the opposite side. Any ideas??

It looks like you have a 1789 Duit from the Dutch East Indies Company. I don't know offhand if that is a special date, but duits in general are rather common coins.

Dutch East Indies, West Friesland KM#131 1 duit. It's worth a buck.

What can I say more? Only confirm: it is copper 1 or 1/2 duit VOC - Dutch East India.

Regarding duits, I'd say this didit.

quite a common coin in europe, in that condition i would value it at 75p maximum an XF example will only set you back £2
