What is a "fair" price to pay for those Krispy? I found a dealer locally who has TONS of these in a bin he is asking $1 each. I'm thinking about putting a 50 state collection if it is possable.
They are not really worth anything over face and are common. I won these two in a CT contest. If the dealer has TONS of them I would be hard pressed to pay anything over 5¢ a piece. If you are trying to buy a set of all states I would highly advise not to spend $50 to acquire them. Pick out as many as you need in the condition you like them in and make a significantly lower offer for the lot of pieces you want to buy. If he only has, say 35 out of the 50 states you need, that's only $1.75 at .05¢/ea. I wouldn't pay more than $2.50 for all 50 if they are all circulated and in such varied condition. I believe there was a thread in the past year in which someone shared an entire collection of these that was bought in a holder shaped like a US map. They probably turn up on eBay if you hunt there. Do not overpay for these common, modern counter stamped coins. They were a novelty to begin with and are not rare. $1 each is too much to pay, IMO. Just do some further searching online before buying from that dealer.
Those are cool krispy, I got a half with two of my initials that I found roll hunting, I'll post a pic tonight.
I just picked this one up on eBay. It's a 4 reales of Spanish Mexico counterstamped by the Bank of England to pass as a florin during a time of severe coin shortage in England.
Thanks for the opportunity to post a couple more coins from the FUN show. I bought these on Sunday when about 50% of the dealers had already left. The 1894 Guatemala 1/2 real C/M is on an 1869 Peru Sol. The Habilidad (Costa Rican) C/M is on an 1847 Central American Republic 1/2 real. Cool stuff IMHO.
Yeah Mark, krispy is right about how common these are. I certainly wouldn't pay more than ten cents apiece tops. There are lots of different novelty counterstamped coins around, mostly Lincoln Cents, but on other denominations too. Not too long ago someone posted a pic on C/T of one that had the Easter Bunny stamped in the field in front of Lincoln's portrait. An entire collection of states would be cool, but I wouldn't pay too much for it. Bruce
Thanks Krispy and Bruce!, I thought that a buck was a little crazy. If I get to that dealer again I'll try to play lets make a deal. What started me on this was finding a lincoln cent stamped with both Hershey PA and a Hershey kiss on it while roll searching. Thanks Again!
search eBay, I have seen whole sets of all 50 for sale. I think one I watched went for about $50 - don't really remember
there are a bunch of them BIN $25 http://cgi.ebay.com/50-1975-lincoln...S_Individual&hash=item3363c45c61#ht_500wt_716
