Is anyone familiar with the Red Book enough to advise if the silver weight of the different 90% silver coins that the Red Book lists are in Troy ounces or 'regular' ounces?
Precious metal weights are traditionally expressed in troy ounces, and the Red Book is no exception. Simply multiply the "net weight" of pure silver given in the Red Book specifications by the current price of silver, and you will have the bullion value of the coin in question. For world coins, the Krause catalogs list the "ASW" of silver coins, for Acutal Silver Weight, which is the same as the Red Book's "net weight". (For other coins Krause uses "AGW" (gold), and "APW" (platinum).
I was doing that method of calculation, but didn't know if the Red Book was listing that weight in Troy ounces or not. Thanks for confirming that they do...
