What kind of error is this?

2002 penny . Is this an error?

The back is pushed in alot . I tried to get a comparison with a regular penny. Let me know what you think?

I took this to my coin shop and they said they have never seen any penny like it.

 

So they couldn't offer any insight as to what kind of error it is (assuming it IS an error)?

 

my guess is heat damage.

 

My guess is that its a "manmade" error judging from that thin line around the edge which tells me, two cent coins were ground down and glued or soldered together.

Too bad your "Coin Shop" couldn't spot this.

 

see if it has a die rotation. that may have been the objective, if it is two coins soldered together.

 

I sent this coin with different pictures to Fred weinberg, and he said its hard to determine if its an error or damage. I'll post the pics that I sent him tonight, he did mention it's something he wouldn't buy with just looking at the pics but suggested ebay.

 

Oh, and there is no die rotation.
