Made Awesome Discovery Today

  1. My grandfather was the one who got me into coin collecting. I went over to his house today and was looking through his collection in the safe. I was thumbing through his book of Mercury Dimes, and in the book was a... 1916-D! it completely blew me away! He didn't even know he had it; he filled that book decades ago. Sadly, i forgot my camera at home, but it completely made my day.

That is pretty cool (assuming it is genuine).

What condition is the coin in?

When you get a chance post some pic,s i would love to see them :)

  5. Hm, it was pretty worn, but the date and mintmark are clearly readable. I'd say Good-8. Still better than no 1916-D

That's AWESOME! Ship that puppy off to get certified soon.

My granddad had no less than FOUR 1916-D dimes, and non turned out genuine. A couple were very word 1916-S coins and 1 was an added mintmark.

I would think your chances are little better having only 1 coin :)

Post pics -- sounds like quite a find!

264,000 1916-D Mercury Dimes were struck but it is estimated that well over 1,000,000 can be found in collections.
