Went to the NYC show this evening and picked up a few Talers. I do not have these first 2 in my set as they generally run scarce. Needless to say, the technology in the 16th century was not at the level of the later 17-18th century. Strikes are weak, with much cruder dies. These are on the first pages of the Davenport book going back to the earlier part of the dynasty. Note Joachimstal (Mint) is the source of the "Taler". So here goes. 1) 1558 AUSTRIA, Holy Roman Empire. Ferdinand I. Emperor, 1558-1564. 72 Kreuzer (1 Taler). Hall Mint. Crowned and armored half-length bust right, holding sword and scepter 1558 •, double eagle facing, head left, wings displayed, coat of arms of Tyrol on breast. Davenport 8028. 2) 1557 AUSTRIA, Holy Roman Empire. Ferdinand I. Emperor, 1558-1564. Joachimstal Mint. DAV-8046. Bearded version. 3) 1717 Charles VI Taler. Breslau Mint (Scarce). DAV-1092. I haven't seen many come up for auction. 4) 1722 Wolfgang Count Von Schrattenbach (1711-1738). DAV-1218. Simply a nice look to this one.
