I have another question (big surprise i know). I was going through some of the coins that have been passed down to me and i found this. What causes it? It doesnt look like its a gouge because it is raised from th face of the coin. It almost looks like someone dripped solder on it. I guess i just wanted to make sure it was damage and not some sort of mint error.

It looks like solder because it probably is solder. Or possibly some sort of glue. That is one of the ways that coins used to be attached to belt buckles or other pieces of jewelry.

Don't ! Continue to ask any & all questions. It's a lot cheaper to get educated that way ;)
